Videos

There are a number of interesting vidoes on Youtube that relate to Ben Line, the ports Ben Line used, or general life in the Merchant Navy in the latter half of the 20th Century.

I will be adding links to these as I find them.  Hope you enjoy!

One for the Engineers!  Even if there is very little chance anyone served on a triple expansion steam ship.

S.S.  Jeremiah O'Brien is a surviving Liberty ship.  She is docked in San Francisco and I was lucky enough to get a trip around her.

The 2nd video follows her on a trip from dry dock to San Francisco, most of the time spent in the engine room.

Another Liberty Ship Museum

This one is based in Pireaus in Greece.  A wonderful preservation project.  The video is a  tour of the ship.

Many of the Ben Line ships were built on the Clyde.

This short video is narrated by someone who served an apprenticeship at John Browns shipbuilders on the Clyde.  Even though this was not one of Ben Lines shipbuilders, it describes life as a marine engineering apprentice at that time, and shows some nice film of the rivetting process.

No Ben boats unfortunatley!
